Wings, Waves, and Worldwide Sales: Meet Ivo van den Berg
From Yachts to Patrol Boats (and Beyond)
When Ivo joined Hug Engineering Enschede in September 2022, he started out focusing on the superyacht segment. But it didn’t take long for his scope to grow. Today, he’s also working with tugs and patrol boats, while supporting projects in Turkey, the UK, Canada, and even the Middle East.
What makes the job exciting for him?
“At Hug, we always consider if a direction really makes sense for the company. Our products are reliable, and that reputation matters to the people who use them.”
Why Hug Feels Like Home
For Ivo, the real magic is the people.
“I love the global spirit, the mix of cultures, and how supportive everyone is - even when it’s just through Teams. You really feel it at trade shows, when colleagues from all over the world come together as one Hug team.”
He also values the perspective he gains from senior colleagues:
“Some of our sales experts have been in the business for decades. Their advice helps me see things differently - and that’s gold.”
A Pilot at Heart
Outside of Hug, Ivo spends as much time looking at the horizon as he does at the sea. On his 29th birthday, he took up flying and has since become an avid single-engine plane and glider pilot.
And when he’s not up in the air, you’ll probably find him swimming, at the gym, or exploring a new city - preferably one with a beach.
Flying, he says, has taught him more than just how to handle a cockpit.
“Pilots develop a strong focus - there’s no autopilot in these small planes. That kind of concentration is just as valuable in sales.”
Looking Ahead with Confidence
What’s next for Ivo?
“I believe we can grow into new markets and make Hug even more stable by attracting more clients across different segments.”
With his feet on the ground - and sometimes far above it - Ivo is ready to help Hug Engineering reach new heights.
