Shiptec
Our Challenge
Hug Engineering develops and maintains modern, sustainable exhaust gas cleaning systems - an essential factor for Shiptec AG. We rely on innovative technologies to maximize the efficiency and environmental performance of the vessels operated by our customer and parent company, the Schifffahrtsgesellschaft des Vierwaldstättersees, based in Lucerne.
That’s why we needed a fast and effective solution when our steamship, DS Unterwalden, encountered a technical issue. The Hug E-Power system - designed to reduce emissions - performed flawlessly in idle mode. However, during operation under load, the regeneration process didn’t function as expected. Testing while docked wasn’t feasible, and multiple test voyages just to identify the issue would have been costly and time-consuming. We needed a smarter, more efficient approach - one that would avoid disruption and stay true to our commitment to sustainability.
Hug Engineering as the Solution
Hug Engineering stepped in immediately with a proactive and innovative approach. Instead of conducting extensive test voyages, they provided us with a remote tool that enabled real-time system monitoring during live operations. This allowed their experts to track all data remotely, diagnose issues as they occurred, and adjust parameters on the fly - without interfering with our schedule.
Life is Good
Hug shipped us the remote tool, which was simple and easy to install. On our next voyage, their team monitored our system in real time, quickly identified the issue, and made the necessary adjustments - all while we continued sailing without delays or disruptions. In no time, our system was running smoothly again. Since then, this tool has been a game-changer. It allows for efficient remote diagnostics, reduces the need for on-site visits, and cuts costs. Thanks to Hug’s quick response and expertise, we now have a smart, efficient way to keep our vessel operating at its best - giving us peace of mind, knowing that our Hug systems are monitored by professionals.
