IMO Tier III compliancy for mid-speed four-stroke engines
Hug Engineering and CSSC Chinese Marine Power Co Ltd. (CMP) has reached its first IMO Tier III Certification for mid-speed four-stroke engine.
The IMO Tier III tests of the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) clean4marineTM System by Hug Engineering with engines produced by CMP had been successfully carried out at CSSC shipyard in China.
Hug Engineering supported CMP during the IMO Tier III classification. CMP is certificate owner and took responsibility for the entire certification process. The Tier III EIAPP certificate were issued by Bureau Veritas and DNV-GL.
In February this year, CMP signed an exclusive cooperation agreement with Hug Engineering AG for the supply and production of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.
With this system, CSSC will meet customer demands and allows its customers to sail their vessels in NOx Emission Control Areas (NECA).
With an SCR System to reach IMO Tier III limits, harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) are to be significantly reduced. Tier III, the next stage of the United Nations IMO NOx emissions regulations, applies to vessels operating in North American and the United States Caribbean Sea NOx Emission control Areas (ECAs). Additional areas are expected to be designated NOx-ECAs in the future.
