Hug Engineering at Navalia 2026: Cleaner Marine Operations Start with the Right Aftertreatment Partner

Scheepvaart

From 19–21 May 2026, Hug Engineering will exhibit at Navalia in Vigo, one of the key meeting points for the international shipbuilding and maritime industry. Visitors will find us at Booth G67, where our team will be ready to discuss the emission challenges shaping today’s marine projects.

Navalia brings together the people and companies who turn vessel concepts into working reality: shipyards, shipowners, operators, equipment manufacturers, technology providers, and maritime service companies. That is exactly why we are looking forward to next week. The conversations at Navalia are closely connected to what we do every day: helping marine customers meet demanding emission standards while keeping their vessels reliable, efficient, and ready for real operating conditions.

More Than 40 Years of Exhaust Aftertreatment Expertise

For more than four decades, Hug Engineering has been developing exhaust gas aftertreatment systems for large engines used in marine, power generation, rail, and other demanding applications. In the marine market, our role is clear: we help shipyards, operators, and engine partners reduce emissions without compromising vessel performance, installation feasibility, or long-term serviceability.

Our solutions are engineered around the practical realities of marine projects. Space is limited, operating profiles are demanding, downtime is expensive, and compliance requirements continue to evolve. That is why we do not believe in one-size-fits-all systems. We design compact, robust, and customized aftertreatment solutions that fit the vessel, the engine, and the project conditions.

For a broader look at our workboat expertise, see our article “Powering Compliance and Performance at Sea.”

Compact SCR Systems for Marine NOx Compliance

One of Hug Engineering’s core strengths is the development of compact SCR systems for marine applications. These systems are designed to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and support compliance with standards such as IMO Tier III, while also addressing the integration challenges that shipyards and operators face in real engine rooms.

Our SCR solutions are built for newbuild and retrofit projects, with a strong focus on compact design, low backpressure, reliable urea dosing, and long-term operational stability. Whether the project involves a tug, ferry, dredger, offshore vessel, inland vessel, or port operation, our engineering approach is built around one goal: making compliance work in practice, not just on paper.

For more detail on this topic, visitors can also explore our article “IMO Tier III for Workboats: Making Compliance Work in Real Operations.”

SCR + DPF Solutions for Stage V and Ultra-Low Emission Requirements

Where emission requirements go beyond NOx reduction, Hug Engineering provides combined SCR + DPF solutions. This is especially relevant for applications where EU Stage V or other strict local emission standards require the reduction of both NOx and particulate matter.

In these cases, the Diesel Particulate Filter removes soot and particulate emissions, while the SCR system reduces NOx. Together, they form a complete exhaust aftertreatment solution that can be integrated with silencing, control systems, dosing technology, and service access considerations.

This combined approach is particularly valuable for projects where clean operation, compact installation, certification support, and long service intervals all need to come together in one reliable system.

Let’s Talk in Vigo

Emission regulations are changing, vessel designs are evolving, and every project brings its own technical and operational constraints. That is why direct conversations matter.
