Smart Air SCR and the Combined Solution: Compact, Quiet, Reliable
This year, Hug Engineering presents its latest innovations for superyachts - two systems that represent the forefront of modern emission reduction technology.
Smart Air SCR introduces a new generation of low-pressure air-assisted injection systems designed to achieve precise urea atomization and stable NOx reduction. Thanks to its compact design, low heat load, and quiet operation, it offers a long-term reliable solution for engine rooms where space and comfort matter most. Developed through advanced CFD modeling and validated in Hug’s in-house spray laboratory, it ensures even mixing, prevents clogging, and keeps maintenance requirements low.
Key features of Smart Air SCR:
• Proven NOx reduction up to 98%
• Compact and space-saving design
• Silent operation and reduced engine-room heat
• Swiss precision in spray and mixing quality
• Reliable operation - no clogging, no surprises
Complementing the SCR technology is the Combined Solution (SCR+DPF). This system unites diesel particulate filtration and NOx reduction in one compact housing, delivering both quiet operation and clean exhaust. The integrated silencer reduces sound levels by up to 35 dB, while the actively regenerated DPF cuts black carbon emissions by more than 98%. These exceptional results reflect the best performance available on the market - the outcome of over four decades of continuous R&D and engineering excellence.
Key features of the Combined Solution:
• Power range from 200 kW to 3 MW - compatible with variable-speed generators
• Actively regenerated DPF reducing black carbon emissions by more than 98%
• Outstanding service life – up to 9,000 operating hours or up to six years of continuous yacht use
• Switchable operation outside ECA zones - optimizing performance and lowering urea consumption
• “One-deck” installation concept - compact, integrated, and easy to fit
